Don't underestimate the power of rest

Hi Mamas,

The benefits of taking time off to reset cannot be underestimated. About a week ago, I recognized I was feeling lethargic and burnt out. It had been a busy few weeks of work and life and I knew I needed a minute.

This does not always seem like it is within reach, but it usually is if you make it a priority. Even if you work a full time inflexible job where you get a certain number of days off, you can choose to use one day on a random Tuesday and just take some time to Be.

It feels indulgent and almost naughty! It feels like we shouldn't because we need to save our vacation days for family vacations, or because we have so much work to do that we cannot possibly take a day off.

What if we shifted our mindset a little?

The work isn't going anywhere, it will still be there when we return the following day or the following week, and even though we think work or home will fall apart if we aren't there, usually we find that things just keep on spinning.

The productivity boost after taking even one day off is immense. We get things done faster and we are more focused. The mental boost is amazing - we feel calmer, less frazzled and we enjoy our kids more - making us better moms. Win win. When we do this when our kids are at school, rather than on vacation with us, we truly have a day - or few - alone doing exactly what we want or need. Which at this particular time may be absolutely nothing, so that is exactly what you should do! If a day is all you can realistically do, or feel comfortable with, start with that. Build it up to a week. You will be amazed

Something to think about...

Consider taking some time to Be over the next few weeks Mamas, you will be glad you did. For now, most of us have our kiddos home so lets enjoy them and BeMoreMom

Have a great week.

Weekly Reminder - "It is ok to take some time off" (say in your head, whisper, say out loud, write it down and shout it out, multiple times a day).

Weekly Read/Audible - Do Nothing by Celeste Headlee - a great book exploring how our culture used to do less, all of the factors which led to us doing more in every aspect of our lives, and how in fact we need to return to doing less in order to do more of the things that are important.

Weekly Reset - Pick a day over the next month. Take it off. Plan to do exactly what you want to do, considering no one else for just a few hours.

The Wait Is Almost Over!!!
